It is inspired by a circa 1910 Tiffany Studios magnifying glass in the \u003cstrong\u003e“Ninth Century”\u003c\/strong\u003e desk-set pattern, selected from roughly twenty Tiffany Studios desk-set patterns because its interwoven ornament evokes threads as they might appear beneath a magnifying glass—an especially fitting symbol for the Museum. Tiffany Studios was founded by Mayflower descendant \u003cstrong\u003eLouis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933)\u003c\/strong\u003e, whose work is represented throughout the Museum’s holdings.
